Suggest Treatment For Borderline Personality Disorder

I have a male friend who is 30 and has borderline personality disorder and borderline intellectual functioning who swallows spoons and pens when he is depressed, I m afriad that when he notices that I m concerned that I am reinforcing his self-multilating behavior can this be true?
