Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband was in hospital last week with pulmonary embolism. He is home now and last Sunday he started having a lot of blood in his urine. He is getting shots of Warfarin and on Coumadin now. He is seeing urologist tomorrow, but I worry and want to know what that might be.
Hi warfarin is actually a blood thinner medication. It also prevents further clots formation(clot in the blood stuck in a blood vessel in the lungs in the case of pulmonary embolism) . Very important to adjust the dose of warfarin with a regular check of INR test.
Thinning of the blood more than what is required may cause oozing , or bleeding from the smaller blood vessels , for examople , from gums, gastrointestinal or urinary tract (bladder etc )
