Suggest Treatment For Blood In Stools

Dr. Patta,

I'm 29 yrs old & I've had IBS for more than a decade now. On and off

I've seen doctors but from 2007-2009 I haven't had too many problems.

In the month of february this year, I saw blood passing out along with my stools.

I consulted a gastroenterologist who advised me to get a colonoscopy done.

I showed the results to the gastroenterologist & a colo rectal surgeon.

The gastroenterologist reccommended medication while suggesting I have piles whereas

the surgeon said I have a fistula & need to undergo surgery. This has left me utterly

confused & I'm contemplating alternative medicines (Homeopathy/Ayurved)

as I've heard some horror stories about surgeries & I'm not too keen on it.

Kindly advise?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the fistula is usually associated with the chronic perianal discharge, repeated infections and very less likely blood in stools.

Though, I would recommend a fresh check up in surgeon's office with proctoscopy and colonoscopy as per the clinician choice after evaluating the issue.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
General Surgeon
