Suggest Treatment For Blocked Salivary Gland

I believe I have a blocked salivary gland. This is what Kaiser told me. I ve tried sucking on lemon heads and sour things and also took antibiotics. Nothing changed. Now it seems to get really hard and big sometimes, then it goes down a little, but not all the way. But it just stays really hard. I m waiting on new insurance, so I don t have Kaiser anymore. I m just concerned how big and hard like a rock it gets. Should I be concerned?

Hi..
Thanks for writing to us..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

In case if you have a blocked salivary gland, it occurs due to formation of crystalline stones in the ducts of the glands leading to obstruction in the flow of saliva from gland to mouth..

This causes pooling of saliva in the salivary gland itself leading to swelling of the gland.

At times when the salivation increases during meals the swelling can suddenly increase and the gland can become very hard..

In case if sucking lemon is not relieving the condition then you should consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and x ray has to be done to rule out the location of stone..

Surgical removal of the obstruction is the Treatment of choice if conservative does not work..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
