Suggest Treatment For Arthritis

Hello

I have a back injury from a fall 5 years ago,I was supposed to have a lamanetomy done on L1&S5 but I did not go through with the surgury because of a insurance problem. Now 5 years later and 2 injections of cortisone the pain now has gotten worse, while riding in a car and sitting i get sharp strong pain radiating down my bladder and testicles, laying on a ice pack helps but its not great relief. My family doctor is very good man but with the last mri they could not see the real problem and said surgury would not help now and said arthritis may be the cause.I am 50 years old and 190 lbs 5'11",I take no more than 8 loritabs a day,and have been getting by,now since this has gotten worse,I dont know what to do,ask for different or stronger meds or? My work is becoming tougher to do as a mechanic and self employed. Any sugestions. I now have good insurance.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.
Usually nerve compression cant be seen on x ray you may need MRI for this.
At old age there will be age related spondylitis but if there is any nerve compression then that may need specific treatment.

I will advise you to do MRI spine with contrast and PET scan to find arthritis.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
