Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Ever since I was about 18 my heart races occasionally. I m told its hereditary as my 83 year old cousin has it and is still a professor at Sydney Uni. I always called it Arythmia but recently I had an op on my leg and had a general anaesthetic and lying there before it was administered my heart went into overdrive...of course! The anaesthetist told me it was no arythmia but tachia cardia and not of concern. Is this correct?
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns. Arrhythmia is an irregular heart beats. It can be slow or fast. Tachycardia is just a fast heart beats. Tobdiff bebetween those 2 is very important as arrhythmias are sometimes life threatening. My advice to you is -
1. Ask your doctor about HOLTER STUDY. It's a 24 hrs ecg monitoring of patient. Your doctor will get definite idea whether you really have arrhythmia or what. And if you have arrhythmia then what type of arrhythmias? Then he will guide you regarding prevention and treatment of your disease.
2 . Whenever you have such episode, don't get panic. Just lie down and take a deep breaths for few minutes.
3 . Kindly check your routine blood reports like lipid profile, thyroid profile, CBC, S. Creat levels and also undergo 2 d echo study (sonography of heart)
Thank you. Have a nice day.
