Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello, I am 18 years old. I recently got in a car wreck and it has caused my anxiety to greatly increase. I have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder before, but was never treated for it due to the fact that my father did not want me on any type of medication. I have been having at least 1 panic attac a day, and it is exstreamly hard for me to even get in a car let alone drive it. what would you perscribe for this?
You have been suffering from anxiety even before accident and the anxiety aggravated to severe intensity after accident. It could be due to post traumatic stress disorder with pre-existing anxiety. You are also having panic attacks an this has resulted in avoiding behaviour. You are not able to drive car alone. As per my opinion you should visit a psychiatrist and start taking treatment. Don't hesitate to take medicines.
Medicine like SSRIs as Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Escitalopram etc are very useful in PTSD and panic attacks. For symptomatic control of anxiety medicines like etizolam, clonazepam can be used.
Apart from medicines relaxation exercises like yoga, meditation etc will be very beneficial. Consult a psychiatrist for detailed prescription.
Thanks
