Suggest Treatment For Anxiety And Stress

My son, age 27, has been having a multitude of symptoms, i.e., heart pounding, strange feeling in his head (not exactly a headache but rather pressure inside his head), sudden daily hair loss (more than usual), and scalp burning. He just moved to Virginia, is a middle school math teacher, and his symptoms started towards the end of the school year. He saw several physicians....a PCP which gave him a low dose of Xanax for 10 days which didn t affect him, a psychiatrist which placed him on Zoloft 50 mg q.d. which he s been on for 5 days now, and a cardiologist which did an EKG (normal) and scheduled him for an echocardiogram and stress test within the next two weeks. He doesn t feel well all the time, & every time he tries to exercise it exacerbates the symptoms. He s lost about 10 pounds of weight since his symptoms began. Anxiety runs in the family (I take Zoloft) but I m not sure if this is what he s dealing with and am very concerned since he s a teacher.

Dear User,
Going by the description of your son's problem, I would first think of a depressive disorder. And I think he is receiving right treatment. Zoloft will take 3-4 weeks before you could see any improvement. So I would have continued the same treatment and in addition he may be advised regular exercise and be encouraged to discuss his problems.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
