Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my name is alexis, i had an abortion on the 26 august 2013, at first when i found out i was pregnant i did want to keep the baby but my partner and i where still young we had only been together a few months and he said that we shouldnt keep it as we wouldnt be able to give the baby anything. i really wanted to keep her but i know we wouldnt be able to and we wanted to do everything the right way. since that day i have cried myself to sleep everyday i feel guilty being happy i feel like i dont deserve to be happy its affecting my relationship and my work. i am very insecure that my partner will leave me to get away from the hassle he does understand why i am like this now. but before this all happened i was a very fun care free person and now i have anxiety i am depressed i cry all the time i hate myself for what ive done and i dont know how to fix it.
I read your query in detail and can understand your distress. We often are not able to move on smoothly in life after certain events. You seen to be still preoccupied with the abortion and as a result are having symptoms which are causing distress. From what you have mentioned, you seem to be suffering from depression.
I would suggest that you seek a psychiatric consultation for your condition. You would need treatment with anti-depressants (escitalopram or sertraline would be safe and effective). In addition, you can start exercising daily which will help you relax. Discussing your problems and thoughts with someone can also help you de-stress yourself. You can do that with a therapist, or some one close to you. Alternatively, you can start writing diary daily letting out your emotions.
Hope this information was helpful. Wishing you speedy recovery.
