Suggest Treatment For Anorexia Nervosa

My name is Amanda Alhabal, I am 16 year old American citizen. Here s my story... I was 14 when I got my first period, six months after that I saw a blood stain the size of a penny, 6 months later I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, a year later (I was still anorexic) I was given Prozac and another hormone stabilizer and got my period for about 3 or 4 consecutive months, It has not been 5 months and a half and I have not gotten my period.. It s so frustrating because no body knows what s wrong with me.. I am not underweight or obese. I am 5 5 and weigh 148 pounds. What is wrong with me?? My parents keep on blaming me for becomming anorexic and messing up my body.. I am too scared to mention it again because they won t react reasonably.. Is it true that I may not be capable of getting pregnent in the future? Thank you, Amanda Alhabbal

Hello Amanda, We understand your concern.

Irregularities in menstruation in anorexia is very common.Once the symptoms of anorexia improves the irregularities will also come down. Maintaining good nutrition is the key to answer. If prozac is not helping you other SSR' s can also be used only after consulting your doctor.

How ever get a detailed evaluation to rule out other hormonal abnormalities like thyroid disorders, ovarian disorders as it is unlikely to have normal body weight in anorexia.

About pregnancy and ability conceive is not hampered if you have only anorexia nervosa. As the symptoms improve even hormonal imbalance will improve.

Hope the answer has helped you.
