Suggest Treatment For An Insect Bite

Hello. I have, what I believed to be a bug bite on my inner calf that became infected, locally about 1 month ago. I treated it with H2O2 and antibiotic ointment for approximately 1 week. It seemed to have resolved, however the red site remained. I had another flair up of the site again yesterday. It becomes raised, slightly red around it with a white head. I began treating it again with Bacitracin ointment and covering it. It has not spread or enlarged, but I am concerned that it seemed to have returned. I did throw my shaver away and replace with new in case it was that which caused the initial infection. Any suggestions on treating??

Hi,

The most important thing is to watch for signs of infection such as pus secretion fever or swelling of extremity and in this case, you should see a doctor who will probably prescribe antibiotics.

Otherwise, you need some kind of antihistaminic ointment Also Apply an ice pack to a bite or sting for 15 to 20 minutes once an hour for the first 6 hours.

Try a nonprescription medicine for the relief of itching, redness, and swelling such as Benadryl or Chlor-Trimeton. Hydrocortisone 1% cream or calamine lotion may also be helpful.

It is important not to scratch or manipulate the wound to prevent infection. You may cover the wound with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and a nonstick bandage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
