Suggest Treatment For An Inflamed Vein In Mouth

Hi, I went to the dentist earlier today and after the dentist took an X-ray of my mouth, I came home to realize that this vein under my tongue, on the bottom of my mouth, was inflamed purple and was hurting. What can I do to help this? Should I be concerned?

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

The veins under the tongue are lingual veins and are purple in colour and one each is present on either side of midline..

There is a possibility that there is soreness and pain in that area due to trauma to the mucosa caused due to placement of x ray and is a very common finding..

I would suggest you to apply a numbing gel containing Choline salicylate or Lignocaine over the area..

You can do cold water rinses and suck ice..
If there is continuous pain you can take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil, aleve, diclofenac etc..

In case of no improvement in a week consult an Oral physician and get evaluated..

Hope this helps..

Regards,
Dr.Honey Arora.
