Suggest Treatment For An Ear Infection
Sometimes, after I would clean my ears with Qtips, a little while later my ears get a full feeling, sort of an ear ache (not a sharp pain just more of an ache), and the very worst thing is I ll get a wickedly severe headache across my forehead between my eyes and sort of behind my eyes. When I realized what was causing the headaches, I stopped using Qtips. But every now and then I will use Qtips just not go in very deep. The other day, after using a Qtip, I still got a horrible headache and I mean horrible. I ve searched online to verify my situation and haven t found anything quite like it. I would appreciate it if you could let me know if you re familiar with this type of problem. Thank you.

Hi,
The causes of headache after putting in Q-tip in ear and feeling of blockage in ear are as follows:
- Wax in the said ear
- Otitis externa with oedema in ear due to repeated Q-tip and causing nerve compression or granuloma formation causing the symptoms and headache being due to referred pain
- Trigeminal neuralgia with a trigger point in the ear
- Sinusitis
- Any intra-cranial problem
This can be detected by the following ways and treated as per the cause found. First of all, get a consultation with an ENT surgeon so that a proper endoscopy and investigations like CT scan of mastoids, sinuses and brain can help to see for the cause. MRI for trigeminal neuralgia is suspected. The treatment would be to stop putting in Q-tip and further management as per the cause found.
