Suggest Treatment For Allergic Skin Rashes
My father age 78 had fever on Sunday (101F). Gave a prescribed dose of Paracetamol tablets (Panadol). After about an hour we notices a rash all over the upper body which we had not noted before. The were pustular rash and we thought it was chickenpox. However the doctor ordered blood reports do not show viral infection but bacterial. CRP was high. doctors said he cannot confirm it as chickenpox and it looks like a allergic or skin rash. We are awaiting an urine culture report. As he has bee having fever about every 10 hours paracetamol is been given. he has not taken paracetamol for a very long time (maybe 7 or 8 years). Could this be a paracetamol allergy. How can we check for sure? Thanks

Skin rash, in this case, could be from the infection but also a drug reaction from Paracetamol. First thing to do is to not take Paracetamol until the situation is clear.
You should continue with examinations to find out where the infection is and treat it. Regarding the doubt, if this was a reaction from paracetamol, you should meet a doctor and test it to see if it was the cause of it.
The doctor will decide to perform an oral challenge with paracetamol or to substitute paracetamol with another anti-inflammatory treatment.
