Suggest Treatment For Allergic Cough

Hi, we have recently sifted to Bangalore from Gurgaon( about 2 months ago). My son, 3.8 yrs is suffering from allergic cough( thats what his doc says) for past 10 days. He says that he is allergic to sand and dust. For the 1st 4 days, this was not diagonosed and doc gave him Mox and a multi vitamin for 4 days. When there was no improvement in cough, we again went to him and he suggested Chericof 3 times a day(2.5 ml) and Cetrizine Hydrochloride, once every day. I cant see much of an improvement after 2 days of this medicine. Pls advise

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Any family history of allergy or asthma? Is the cough more at night or early morning(suggests allergy). Does he have any fever?

Allergic cough is best treated by antihistamine(like cetirizine) along with salbutamol nebulisation or inhaler. Sever cases that do not respond, also will need a short course of steroids.

Kindly get back to your pediatrician if he is not getting better in 3 days. Meanwhile, avoid dust and cold environment. Keep the room dust free, and keep him away pets.

Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
