Hello,
I am sorry to hear about your concerns. It is already a big step forward that you realize you have a problem and that you want to do something about it. I would advise you to first of all consult with a physician ( a general physician) and tell the doctor about your history. He would likely advise for a few tests, seeing as you have a history of TB. He would probably advise an
HIV test also. All these issues are not a reason to panic however. TB is very treatable if you follow up with your doctor without fail and if you take all the required medications as instructed by your doctor. Even HIV (if you have it at all) is very treatable, and the drug regimens which are presently in place generally have a good success rate at keeping the
viral load of patients very low.
Coming back to your initial concern about the
masturbation problem. I would advise you to consult with a
psychiatrist and also a counselor. Basically, somebody who can formulate a plan of action for you, and with whom you can have regular follow-up and discuss your progress.
You should keep in mind that any addiction ( this is an addiction ) takes time to resolve and also, it might take a few failed attempts before you can actually get rid of the problem.
Now coming to a few first hand measures that I think I can safely ask you to try in order to get out of the rut. First of all, try to get out of the house more. Get out, try to join in a sport, whatever sport that you like. Keep yourself and your mind occupied. You are young, and you need to keep yourself active. Invest your energy in your job, and if you don't have one, find one. Take up some responsibility, for example, helping at the homeless shelter. This will keep yourself busy and it will give you a sense of well-being. All this may sound far-fetched or too difficult to do, but I think that if you start small steps at a time, you will surely get there. You have your entire life ahead of you, this is certainly a problem, but it is not something that you cannot resolve. So do get help like I advised you to, and I hope that you take my advice in implementing certain lifestyle changes.
All the best, and do keep in touch and tell me about your progress or failure to progress. Trying to treat this kind of problem doesn't mean progress has to come right away. It takes patience.
