Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband is having acute knee pain. This usually occurs every two years in his ankle. Sometimes in his toe. This is the first time it has occurred in his knee. He woke up on Friday morning with acute knee pain in which it hurts so much it is hard to walk. If he finds a position it is comfortable it is fine but the slightest movement causes pain. He finds if he takes ibuprofen it helps some. He has been watching his intake of seafood , alcohol because we thought it was gout when it occurred in his toe but this time he had not taken any of those foods. He is overweight.
The first treatment in your husband's case would be over the counter anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen. They not only combat the pain but also the inflammation in the joint. However, you should see your doctor even if he momentarily improves. Examination of the knee and potentially blood and imaging tests may be needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
