Suggest Treatment For Acute Bronchitis

I have had acute bronchitis for about two weeks. I have recently started smoking pot, like about two months ago about 3-4 times a week but ever since the cough came up, I have stopped. I went to the doctor and was prescribed a steroid and something else( I forgot what it was) to help the symptoms and I have been taking codeine cough syrup. I ran out of the steroid and the other mediction last Wednesday but I have continued to take the cough syrup nightly and I have also been taking twork 600 mucinex tabs also, although they weren t prescribed they were recommended. I took my cough syrup and mucinex already but I wanted to know if it was ok to smoke lightly out of a steel pipe. My Cough hasn t been frequent or painful the past 5 days but when I do cough it is repetitive for about 30 seconds and I do usually cough up something mostly white but rarely yellow. This 30 second cough session happens about 5-6 times a day.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You have to stop smoking as it may be the only reason in your case. You should be tested with spirometry to rule out / rule in asthma or COPD. Please consult your chest physician. Positive life style changes and a healthy life style can work wonders. Environmental and work related atmosphere are also very important along with stopping even chances of passive smoking.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Azeem Ullah, General & Family Physician
