Suggest Treatment For Acne On Body

hi, I m Deanna. I have been suffering from acne almost all my life. Since the age between 10 or 11 until now. I ve been having whiteheads ,dark spots, pimples and blackheads all over my body such as my back, butt, upper arms, upper chest and face. I don t know what the cause is and i want answers why I ve been having this acne all my life. My mom believes it s hormone imbalance because I ve had problems having my period for months. I don t know if its because of my weight because I weigh 194 for my age(16 years old). From the age of 10 until now I m using Proactiv solution system which have made a huge difference to my face than in the past but, I still have blackheads, dark spots and etc. I just want to know if there is any type of soap or medicine i could put on my skin to get rid of the acne. Thank you.

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Acne can affect face, as well as arms, chest, back and shoulders. All these areas are rich in sebaceous glands.
You seem to have moderate to severe grade of acne and an extensive involvement, therefore topical treatment alone would not be effective.
If I was the treating doctor I would have started you on Oral Retinoids e.g Isotretinoin. Isotretinoin is sebostatic, comedolytic and antinflammatory. Therefore, it has a multipronged action in treatment of acne.
Besides Oral retinoids, topical treatment with topical benzoyl peroxide cream or wash is to be continued as before.
Oral retinoids are prescription drugs and I suggest you to visit a dermatologist for a prescription of the same.
You dermatologist might also start you on oral antibiotics if your acne is inflammatory i.e red, painful and pustular.

Hello,

I can understand your concern for treatment for acne on body. It appears that you have got acne since very initial stage of before the teenage itself and still been sufferer of the same. In females it is quite common to find such kind of acne which are commonly distribute over the face, back shoulders and even buttock areas. It is due to start of the hormonal influence and is quite common before menses.

You have not told your marital history or any history of pregnancy as you are the best candidate for the Isotretinoin treatment. In all my patients with your kind of acne I prefer to give oral isotretinoin for once a day or according to body weight and severity. The only issue is that it should not be given to a married female who want to conceive in next 6 months. You can discuss further with a dermatologist.
Take care.
