Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good day, I was previously disgnosed with acid reflux by my doctor and was put on proton pump inhibitors; all was well and I have been off then for a month, tonight however I was struck by nausea and started vomiting; I have been stuck in the washroom for quite a while now; i have sipped at water but puke it out, so at first I assumed it was a stomach flu, however now I have been realizing that in between puking periods I feel acid back up in my throat uo to almost my mouth; would this sound more like a flu or simply acid reflux? I am just very confused! Alex
Dear as said by you ,you are a diagnosed case of acid peptic disease with gastroesophagial reflux that we call GERD . There is a sphincter at gastro esophageal junction . That get lax some time and because of that regurgitation occurs . This should be treated with at least 6 to 8 weeks of proton pump inhibitors along with any prokinetic drug for symptomatic benefits.this seems to be again the case of regurgitation that can be managed by ppi and prokinetic combinations . If it is not subsiding after 6 weeks of ppi or you develop any other danger symptoms such as difficulty in swallowing . Pain in swallowing or anaemia these will be indication for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy .With the help of that we can take pictures of your esophagus and stomach . Hope this will help.
