Suggest Treatment For Accidental Ingestion Of High Doses Of Cefdinir

I was supposed to give my grand daughter 5ml of Cefdinir with water and accidentally gave her 10ml. I didn t see the instructions until after I gave it to her, and her parents are out of cell phone range. She is only 8 yrs. old, but very big for her age--tall and overweight.

Hello,

The drug in question is an antibiotic syrup - a double dose of which was administered to your eight-year-old granddaughter. There is nothing to worry since the dose is not high enough to cause any deleterious effect.

However, you may skip the next one dose of the syrup to prevent an overdose of antibiotic syrup.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
