Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Hernia

I am a 69 year old white male. I am showing a hernia on my stomach when i flex my stomach muscles. The hernia is right under the scar from my gall bladder surgery in my twenties. I do not have any pain. I ve had it a couple of months. It does not seem to be getting any worse. How serious is this?

Hello,
This type of abdominal hernia is not an emergency. If it is not bothering you then your doctor may choose to just watch it. You need to know that hernias can occasionally become what is called incarcerated. This means that a piece of the intestine that is pushed out through the hernia gets twisted around and if this happens it is an emergency. it is very painful and the mass would be very hard at the hernia site. Many people choose not to get hernias repaired ad as long as you are aware of this possible complication then you may not need a surgical intervention.
