Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Cramps From Tampon Use
Yesterday I found a forgotten tampon in my vagina that must have been there for 10-12 days. The only symptom was a terrible odor and vaginal leakage. I thought I had a bacterial vaginosis and just found the tampon and removed it (it was greyish covered with smelly discharge). Now it seems I feel a slight pain in my ovaries, like I am about to get my new period. I will go to my doctor in two days, but as I am freaking out please tell me should I be worried? Can this affect my fertility in any way or cause severe problems? I do not have any other symptoms...
Hello, I have gone through your query and understood the concern. The retained tampon has caused vaginal/cervical infection and possibly the infection may have ascended up into the uterus and appendages as well. Your symptoms are due to the associated pelvic congestion. However, with proper antibiotic and genital care, everything should settle down soon. Fertility is not essentially affected unless there is a tubal block, which seems unlikely. Urinary infection also should be ruled out simultaneously as it is a frequent coexistence. Do not douche or use strong soap solutions to clean the genital area. Use lukewarm water and mild antiseptic lotion. Avoid tampons and use sanitary pads in future. Hope this helps.
