Suggest Treatment For A Torn Achilles Tendon

How do I treat interstitial tears of achilles tendon? I m a 69 yo male who has been inactive for about 1 year with resulting weight gain(about 25 lbs.!). Have been to several doctors with no great gain---tried boot which made my hip painful, foot soaking in mineral salts, resting foot, applying ice, etc. I used to walk every day with my wife for about 40 mins/day, work in my shop, play ping-pong, dance, etc. Am getting very discouraged. Any recommendations?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Minor tears will heal with conservative management like immobilization or braces.

An MRI scan is required to assess the severity of the disease. In severe cases, surgical correction is required. Consult an orthopedic and he will direct you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
