Suggest Treatment For A Strep Infection From A Tendon Surgery

I have a staff infection from recent(11 weeks ago) hand surgery, I am on my 3rd course of antibiotics and it is not getting rid of the infection. Should I be concerned that the surgeon is staying with this treatment? Also I had an insect bite several weeks ago on my foot which developed a dime sized scab on it and took a couple of weeks to heal. My foot was swollen and is still has some swelling. This is not what I would normally experience so could this be related. I am a 60 year old in good health who is very active (I play hockey and basketball weekly). The infection has delayed my recovery from tendon surgery as the physiotherapist has been unable to use many of the treatments.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Doctors most often prescribe penicillin or amoxicillin (Amoxil) to treat strep throat. They are the top choices because they're safer, inexpensive, and they work well on strep bacteria.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH
