Suggest Treatment For A Small Painful Lump On The Vagina

hi my daughter is twenty and a bout a week ago got a small lump just inside lip of vagina and now it is bigger about size of three quarters it is dark red and hard and she said it hurts she is paranoid about drs but she has an appt next thursday ! today she should go to er what could it be

Hi.

It is most probably a Bartholin's cyst which occurs when the Bartholin's gland (responsible for producing lubrication) gets clogged, and so the best approach would be the apply a warm compress over the region as many times a day for several days. This will either result in the regression of the cyst, or cause it to pop, either way it will result in resolution.

Also make sure she maintains good personal hygiene, avoids friction over the region, avoids sexual contact and/or masturbation, and takes sitz baths during the daytime using epsom salt (at least once daily).
