Hello and welcome to HCM,
A hard lump on the leg can be due to bony swelling or soft tissue swelling.
A X-ray of the lower leg is required to know relation of the lump with the bone.
In case the swelling is arising from soft tissues, aspiration cytology of the lesion can be done.
In aspiration cytology, a needle is inserted into the swelling, cells are aspirated, spread on a slide and stained with appropriate stains.
The origin, nature and character of the lesion is determined by this investigation and thus management can be done.

Thanks and take care
