Suggest Treatment For A Lump At The Injection Site Of Methamphetamine

My 25yr old son has been shooting ice. He did it alot for 2 days in row and slept none and ate very little. He has had a large lump on forearm for over a wk. His recent injecting has made it larger and really sore. Hasn t done anything in 3 days, and is sleeping almost 8 hrs..wakes up and eats anything he can..then goes back to sleep for hours. Has low fever(100°). Is there anything I can do at home to help(already giving antibiotics twice a day and lots of liquids) the large lump?? Plz lemme knw the risks he s taking by not goin to ER, so I can pass it on. Thank u so much.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your son seem to be related to a side effect of the injection.

The lump is one of the rare side effects of the injection.

I suggest using cool compresses in the area of the lump.

I also suggest giving an anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
