As such you need to know size and location of hole in heart. There is inadequate information in your question .but I shall inform you about 2 common holes and its management.
1.ASD hole in septum between 2 upper chambers of heart .This has to be operated by the age of 5 yes once child attains weight around 15 to 20kg.exceptionally large hole with high pressure in lungs may need early closure.
2.VSD hole in septum between 2 lower chambers of heart. This can have various locations.Amongst all one variety called perimembranous VSD may close spontaneously by age of 10 yrs.all remaining types need closure depending upon weight gain and pressure in lungs.so you need regular echo assement to decide timing of surgery.
I hope you all the best to child.
