Suggest Treatment For A Bruise On The Calf

I have a large bruise on my calf from a bump/scrape that occurred a week ago. There is now some redness developing in the center of the bruise over an area that has been hard to the touch since the injury. The area feels warm to the touch. Is that a cause for concern?

Hi,

If there was a scrape or bump causing bruise then it can be most probably due to injury to the peripheral blood vessels causing blood spilt into soft tissues. Many a time as the healing proceeds the color may continue to change. But if the area is becoming progressively painful and the redness is spreading then there is a possibility of infection in the injured area.

So my suggestion is to once get it checked by a Physician. For now, you can apply Heparin containing gel over the area. Do cool compresses over the area. Take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Advil. Keep the leg slightly raised while lying down.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
