Suggest Treatment For A Bruise On The Arm After Injury

I fell backward after trying to stand up in a crowded space with limited foot room. I fell on my hip, which seems fine, but caught myself on the palm of my hand, bending my hand back. Now I have a bruise running from my wrist to the palm. No numbness but some discomfort at the point of impact. Do I need to get it x-rayed right away or can I wait and see how it feels in the morning?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It will be good if you get examined as soon as possible. Your doctor may judge the need for an x-ray after examining the hand. You may also need an anti-tetanic immunization if your vaccination status is not up-to-date. A pain drug like Tylenol may help and your doctor may also prescribe you antibiotics or antiseptic wound cleaning to prevent infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
