Suggest Treatment For UTI

I have a friend who has a history of UTI s and whose doctor has always treated her with antibiotics, such as Keflex. These eased the symptoms of the UTI s but they keep recurring and now she is in alot of pain with a swollen and painful vagina. It is like torture for her to urinate as her whole bottom hurts. She also told me that her urine is dark and has an strong odor. Her doctor has always been reluctant to send her to a specialist, and just keeps treating her with the antibiotics and not investigating the cause of all these symptoms. How can she get her doctor to investigate further, and send her to a urologist (or should it be a gynocologist? Thank you for your help. My friend does not have a computer I will relay your answer.

Dentist Dr. Viraj Ravin Shah's  Response
Hello,

I can understand your concern. Sometimes recurrent infections treated with same antibiotics make the bacteria resistant to antibiotics and do not comply to medicines.

I would recommend you to get a blood test (complete blood count) and urine culture done. These reports will indicate what organisms are causing the infection and what antibiotics will be strong enough to eliminate infection completely. Also, tell her to drink lots and lots of fluids.

I hope this information helps you and your friend. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish your friend feels better soon!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
