Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hello,

No, this is not true. RA (rheumatoid arthritis) is autoimmune ( connective tissue) disease. It is not caused by injury. It is because of body's own immunity.

And just only on the basis of the positive Mantoux test, you should not start antitubercular drugs. RA itself can cause pulmonary nodules, fibrosis etc.

So in my opinion, you should consult pulmonologist and get done a bronchoscopy and BAL (bronchoalveolar lavage) analysis. If BAL is negative for TB then no need for anti-tubercular drugs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Kaushal Bhavsar, Pulmonologist
