General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
PCOD is nothing but 'Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease'. It is also called as 'Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome' (PCOS).
This is one of the condition which would cause irregular menstrual periods, for which it makes difficult to conceive.
Since you have stated that you have thyroid problem also and you are being treated for that is a good thing.
The main stay of treatment for PCOD is as follows:
1. Weight Reduction through a low-calorie diet combined with moderate exercise activities.
2. Regular periods by use of combined birth control pills — pills that contain both estrogen and progestin.
3. Helping to ovulate through metformin and clomifen.
4. Reduction of excessive hair growth by spironolactone.
Regular check-ups is necessary to look for progress and complications.
What the doctor has prescribed you is proper, but it requires some more additional medications as mentioned above.
Hope you got the information right.
All the best.
