Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Sir,, my sister is suffering from OCD..she washes everything and ask others to do the same. She feels like everything is full of germs so she washes everything brought from outside. She gets aggressive when we try to stop her. She involves herself in cleaning the things whole day,, takes almost one hour in bathing.. How can she get well.
First of all, if your sister's case has occurred before the Corona virus pandemic, she could have OCD. The treatment is sertraline 150 mg for 6-12 months, besides psychological therapy. After 12 months, the doctor will assess the case again and consider the duration of the treatment. You should help her to relax and help her to avoid severe stress. Moreover, the hormonal therapy for contraception, replacement therapy and irregular menses can aggravate her condition, so she can ask a gynecologist for help. It would be helpful if she had psychotherapy sessions with a psychiatrist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mustafa, Neurologist
