Suggest Treatment For MDD

I have been diagnosed with MDD and have tried several medications, all of which seemed to not work for me. I also have OCD and anxiety. I have been to several doctors in my area however they seem to not listen to me. I have been on celexa, lexapro, zoloft, buspar and effexor. The only thing that worked for me was the effexor but it increased my anxiety tremendously. I can't keep switching meds like this. :( Not only is it not helping but I'm getting down hearted about the whole thing. I have not been on any medication in over 5 months. I feel it was best to lest my body. In doing so I have been better able to think more clearly about my "symptoms". I am anxious all the time, for no reason at all. I stress over nothing. I also feel like...I have to be on the move constantly but I have no desire to do anything. I am at constant struggle with myself. My body is telling me to do something and my mind is saying why bother. This is so frustrating to me. It is having a serious impact in my life. I just don't know what to do.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You have MDD or major depressive episode. You have tried medicines like Citalopram, Escitalopram, Sertraline, Buspirone, Venlafaxine etc drugs and only Venlafaxine resulted in improvement but it caused anxiety. Now the symptoms are persistent and you have stopped to take medicines since last 5 years.

First of all I would like to advise you to visit your psychiatrist again and start taking medicines again. You have MDD and without medicines the symptoms will become more and more severe. If these medicines failed to work then other medicines like Mirtazapine can be used. The medicine will also help in sleep and will help in depressive symptoms. Augmentation with drugs like Lamotrigine, Lithium can help in resistant depressive symptoms. Visit your psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

For resistant depression brain stimulation methods like electro convulsive therapy, Vagal Nerve Stimulation, RTMS (trans cranial magnetic stimulation) etc prove useful supplement to medicines.

Thanks, hope this helps you
