Suggest Treatment For Hemangioma And Asymmetrical Face

Hello, I have a question about Hemangioma and face assimetry. my twelve years old sister has a hemangioma on her tongue, you can say that her tongue is really violet and sometimes, even eating chips can cause bleeding from her tongue. plus she has hemangioma below her lower lip, as from inside the mouth, also from exterior. Also, she has small hemangiomas, like hemorraghes, on her throat. I have to mention that all her hemangiomas, as on her tongue and lower lip, as on the throat, they look like hemorraghes and they dont look like growths. Herewith, she has face assimetry and her right cheek is flail. We thought about face massages to make her face being simetrical but some doctors said that its very dangerous to do massages on her face because it can provoke exceeded sanguimotion. What do you advice in this case? What we can do? Thank you in advance Nina

Hello,

I can understand your concern. There is little that can be done to treat Hemangiomas itself. Corticosteroid medication can help to keep the progressing disease in control. If your sister has developed ulcers on hemangioms, medicated gel such as Becaplermin can help.

However, as your doctors have suggested, massaging face to get symmetry is not advisable for the same reasons that your doctors have indicated. You can go for laser and cosmetic surgery for getting symmetry in the face. You can consult a plastic surgeon for discussing these treatment options.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. I wish your sister feels better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
