Suggest Treatment For ADHD

My daughter is on Concerta for her ADHD and Tenex (1.5 mg) for impulsiveness. Recently she has started coughing a lot throughout the day. It does not matter what activity she is doing (that is she can be doing her favorite activity) and she is still coughing non-stop. My pediatrician thinks it is a nervous tic, but she seems to do it even when she is relaxed and enjoying herself. For example in the time I sat to write this message she has coughed at least 30 times. Can this be caused by either medicine? t seemed to have gotten worse since the Tenex dose was increased. She had been on the Concerta alone for over 1 year without issues.

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. From the given information, it seems your pediatrician is correct. The behavior could be tic. Transient tic disorder is a temporary condition in which a person makes one or many brief, repeated, movements or noises (tics). These movements or noises are involuntary (not on purpose) and therefore the element or nervousness or the child's state of mind or mood never matters.

Tics should be distinguished from other causes of tourettism, stereotypies, chorea, dyskinesias, myoclonus, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Education, and a "watch and wait" strategy, are the only treatment needed for many, and the majority of individuals with tics do not seek treatment. Still, to be sure on the safer side, you may consult a psychologist.

Good luck. Take care.
