Suggest Treatment And Rehabilitation After A Paralytic Attack

Hi, My name is Rohini. My father had a paralytic attack on the left side on February,2014. He can use his right hand and leg but he is unable to move his left hand and leg. When try to stand his legs shiver and he gets cramps. He can stand only for 5-10 mins at once. He is under medication and going through physiotherapy. His medication includes Texfenac.RD capsule for pain, Fruselac and Tazloc for BP daily. Dilantin 100mg twice daily. But there is no improvement till now, Can u suggest a better mode of treatment for him? Also can he given Neurobion Forte as vitamin tablet?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It can take a long time to recover from a stroke (paralytic attack).

In some cases, recovery may never be full and complete. Continuation of physiotherapy as often as possible is very important to regain as much function as possible.

Keeping risk factors under control would prevent another stroke- this means controlling blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, no smoking
Once the blood pressure is under control , he can continue his present BP meds, they do not help regain function but reduce the chance of another stroke.

I hope this helps
