Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had my first cervical screening a couple of weeks ago and my results came back stating there was borderline changes to the cell s in my cervix and evidence of HPV, yesterday I was told I have a UTI. I was wondering if the UTI could have influenced my results also I had intercourse the night before my screening could that have effected it too?
Hi thank you for your query. HPV is generally diagnosed by specific cytologic features or molecular techniques and usually does not get influenced by UTI or recent intercourse. HPV changes if you are less than 25 years are generally not very worrisome as they get reversed on their own very frequently. I would recommend repeat PAP smear testing after 6 weeks to confirm this. For UTI ideal would be ciprofloxacin tablet 1 BD for 4-7 days but that should be taken only under doctors guidance.
