Suggest The Ideal Dosage For Puregon

I am preparing for my first IUI . I ovulate but have low ovarian reserve. My Dr. has prescribed Puregon 150 iui for first 6 days each injection. I am reading and wondering if this is too much as it seems unusual for such a high dose to start. I really cannot afford this drug or another cycle again until next year. I am age 40 and have had one etopic pregnancy, and also endometriosis. Does this sound odd? I am truly in fear this is a scheme to make money.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Puregon injections contain the active ingredient follitropin beta, which is synthetic version of a natural sex hormone called follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).
Puregon is indicated for the treatment of female infertility in the following clinical situations:
(1) anovulation in women who have been unresponsive to treatment with clomifene citrate
(2) controlled ovarian hyperstimulation to induce the development of multiple follicles in medically assisted reproduction programs (IUI/IVF)
Generally, there is no fixed dose for such injections and it can vary from person to person. Your doctor will decide on your starting dose based on the history, clinical findings and investigation reports. The dose may be adjusted during your treatment period according to the response.
Kindly take the injections as recommended and do the necessary follow-up.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
