Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am taking SMZ/TMP DS TAB 800-160 PRESCRIBED BY MY GYN PHYSICIAN FOR A UTI. I am unsure whether I should take one tablet daily or two. She discussed a daily dosage of one tab as a prophylactic and two tbs for treatment of an active UTI, but the prescription came back with one tab daily. I do have an active UTI and I m waiting for the cultures to come back. Should I take 1 tab daily or 2?
If you have an active urinary infection, the dose of SMZ/TMP DS TAB 800-160 in adults is one tablet twice a day for 3-5 days. This may go up to 1-2 weeks of the infection has reached the kidney.
So, I would advise you to use one tablet twice a day. Meanwhile, try to drink plenty of water to flush the urinary system and help the infection clear faster.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
