Suggest The Dosage Of Metoprolol Succinate

Hi, thank you for your time. My Mom is 92, has a-fib, fluctuating blood pressure and a pace maker. Her cardiologist, primary and nurse all have different recommendations on her most recent medication; Metoprolol Succinate 50 mg. One recommends 2 x day, one recommends 1 x day and the other recommends 1/2 twice a day. I m not sure which quantity and frequency would be best....please advise. Thanks, Elizabeth

Hi,

Metoprolol succinate is an extended release pill which means that single dosing is required. The dosage (in milligrams) depends on individual needs. This drug is usually employed to control the heart rate. We usually start from a low dosage and escalate it accordingly.

The target heart rate is around 60 beats per minute. Starting with lower doses sounds more appropriate for the elderly but this is up to her doctor to decide.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
