Suggest Suitable Medication For Depression And Fibromyalgia

My depression medication seems to not be working and my pain med is helping me but I still wake up with pain and unable to sleep due to my fibromyalgia. I have asked for a muscle relaxer and for some odd reason the specialist does not want to give me one. Tramadol is my med and does not really work for my pain I don t know what else to do I need something that works.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You have pain of fibromyalgia and depression. Tremadol is not able to control that pain. For fibromyalgia and depression medicines of SNRI class especially Duloxetine, Venlafaxine, Milnacipran etc have excellent roles. These medicines help to reduce depressive symptoms and control pain.

For pain and fatigue medicines like Gabapentin, Pregabalin can be used. These medicines are non addicting unlike Tremadol so safe to use and free of serious side effects. You can discuss with your psychiatrist for these medicines.

I donot think tramadol is very much effective for fibromyalgia. It also carries the risk of dependence.
I would suggest you to consider using cymbalta or lyrica (pregabalin). Talk to your doctor about this.
Also practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing and meditation.
