Suggest Remedy For Throat Discomfort

Hi: My 23 year old daughter just came home from eating at an in and out burger where she says she drank a shake and had fries complaining about tightness in her upper throat. She says it feels like some one is choking her. She has good color, not noticeable swelling on her neck, throat or tongue.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi, it seems like your daughter is having acute pharyngitis which has just started. The cause can be an infection or allergic to chilled fluid. A fried thing with chilled fluid usually results in coating of oil in the throat and that can promote infection as well an allergic response from the body. The other possibility can be an impending pharyngitis which just coincided with eating out. Please use antiseptic gargles along with an analgesic, proton pump inhibitor and anti histaminic. If the symptoms do not subside, you may need to take antibiotics in consultation with an ENT. Regards
