Suggest remedy for swollen toes

Hi.I am babysitting my 3 yr. old grandson. Thursday evening he played outside. I didn t notice a bite on the second toe of his right foot that night but the next morning his toe was red and swollen. It got worse by that night. We put cortisone and antibiotic creams on it. Today the swelling has gone down some but now his toe looks purple. It felt warm yesterday, but better today. He has had problems with mosquito bites before, but the purple color concerns me. Thanks for any info.

Hello,

The purple color could be related to a local bleeding in this region, probably due to a trauma. Anyway, I recommend continue with antibiotic and steroid ointment. As the swelling has gone, it seems that it is doing well.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
