Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am worried about my mom. She has swollen legs and I believe it is pitting edema because when pressure is placed on her legs an indent occurs and last for about 20 seconds. She also has two strange purple bruises on he upper, inner, thigh. One bruise is on the left thigh and the other is on the right thigh. The bruise is approximately the same size as a water bottle cap. She says the bruise does not hurt, but I find it strange how they just appereared 1 day after he legs started swelling up. She has not injured herself in anyway. I am concerned that this could be a heart or liver problem from what I ve been reading online. Please help me figure out what is going on with my mom.
Dear patient Swollen legs bilateral due to many reasons 1. Uncontrolled hypertension 2. Kidney problem with decreased output 3. Liver problem with low protein level in blood. Is she having high blood pressure? Or less urine output? Is she taking alcohol? You should take her to physician and get examined and investigated thoroughly. Get checked for blood pressure. Blood investigation for 1. Serum protein levels 2. Serum urea and creatinine levels . All the best.
