Suggest Remedy For Sudden Deafness With Disorentation

I had an acd with fusion performed in oct 2010, whilst recovering from this I started to have an ear problem. sudden deafness associated with a feeling of disorentation and feeling sick. after antibiotics nasal sprays etc I was sent to an ent consultant had the routine ear examination and hearing test. also an mri all was clear except for some mild hearing loss. I have continued to have intermittent problems ie buzzing blocked feeling fluttering and somtimes a dull ache, i was sent to a neuro consultant and all neuro test was neg. however he did say that he thought i had poss caught a post op virus labryrinthitis which caused my ear problem and slight balnce problem. I am 6 months down the line but I still have problems will this ever get any better.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is a surgery to remove a herniated or degenerative disc in the neck. You have started the ear problems like sudden deafness and disorientation.
One of the commonest reasons is this surgery causing disruption of blood supply through vertebral artery.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get an angiography of the vertebral and carotid arteries.
Get treated according to the reports if feasible.
You can add on the medications that contain the medications that increase the blood supply to the brain and thus the hearing apparatus.
Take second opinion of the Surgeon who deal is Neuro-otology, find one.
This will help a lot

I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T Chandrakant,
