Suggest Remedy For Severe Pain In Lower Abdomen And Groin Area

Starting a week and a half ago or so, I started experiencing fairly severe pain on my belt line. After 3 or so days, it went away, and I actually ran a marathon 6 days ago. Yesterday it came back, but worse and also includes pain lower, down to the left testicle. Though in excellent shape, I often notice shortness of breath after climbing stairs. It resembles the feeling of having to use the restroom, but that is not the case, unless there is blockage of some sort I don t realize. I expect this is some sort of hernia? Being a serious hypochondriac, I assume I am over reacting and this could be a pulled Mussle of some sort. Thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the lower abdomen can be due to many reasons. You mentioned it is radiating to the lower abdomen and testicles. Most of the time, it is due to renal or ureteric calculi (kidney stone), therefore, there is nothing to worry much. If I am your treating physician I will run a quick USG abdomen to see your abdomen, especially for any stones or any other pathology and I will proceed further.

For now, meet a general surgeon and get a USG of the abdomen done, review with your doctor. It cannot be hernia, since in hernia there will be groin swelling. If you still had a doubt, get a USG done, it can even pick you smallest hernia you have. Muscle spasm usually won't last much or a long time and easily be relieved by pain medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Tata Lokesh Kumar, General Surgeon
