Suggest Remedy For Severe Itching All Through The Body Post Tylenol Withdrawal

I think I may have a Tylenol Pm addiction and I stopped taking it, but now my skin is itching everywhere. It s the type of itch that feels like I have a bug or gnat biting me, but then I look, and there is nothing there. Where it itches, there are sometimes a single small bump here and there, and sometimes not. I itch at different places at different times. The places are all over from my scalp to my back and shoulders and belly and arms to my butt cheeks and legs all over and even the tops and bottoms of my feet. Have had my husband check me many times to make sure there wasn t something biting me, cuz that s what it felt like. It started months ago, and I would be on tylenol pm on and off in that time, and now I have decided I want to stop taking it completely and it s been a week. I stopped taking it 2 weeks ago, and after a week, I took some actual Benadryl (I know it s the same stuff in Tylenol PM) to sleep well, and it was the first night I didn t itch at all. I am very tempted to take it again to stop the itching, but am hoping it s just a withdrawal and will soon stop. In typing this, I have stopped to scratch myself about 5 five times, mostly on my neck and back.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think the itchiness is due to allergy. This explains why you had a good sleep after taking Benadryl which is an antihistamine used to treat allergy symptoms. As the itching has been going on for several days now, I think you should consult with your caring doctor in order to find out the cause. Meanwhile I recommend you to continue taking Benadryl.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
